Ray started as a Letter Carrier in 1985, and in 1986 he became a trustee for Branch 642.  Since that time, he has been steward, secretary, treasurer, legislative liaison, and President of the Branch from 1994 to 2001.  He also was an Arbitration Advocate, Local Business Agent, Director of Education for the State Association (1997 to 1999), and for the last 6 and half years has been the NALC Representative for the Dispute Resolution Team in the Colorado/Wyoming District.   In 1993, one year before being elected President of Branch 642, he continued his education by taking classes at the University of Colorado at Denver and in 1995 received his Masters Degree in Political Science.  Ray has been a delegate to the National Convention since 1988.   

Ray is also a facilitator/Trainer for the NALC in the joint National NALC/USPS training of new DRT members around the country at the Bolger Academy since 2003.
