I am a Colorado native born and raised in Salida. I served 4 years in the US Navy, 1966 to 1970 and hired on as a sub clerk at the Terminal Annex in 1970, became the sub rep almost immediately. I transferred to Englewood on June 1, 1970 and retired on Sept 30, 2002. During that time I served as the recording/financial secretary for many years and had volunteered for numerous projects for the branch. I helped in the merger that formed Centennial Branch 5996 which encompasses Englewood, Aurora, and Littleton. During my years of service I was a shop steward, chief steward representing the carriers in Englewood, served as a Local Business Agent for NBA Cal Burchfield and Paul Davis for a couple of years. I had served one term on the COSALC Executive Board and was also elected as the state secretary for a couple of terms. Last years I was appointed as secretary again to fill a vacant position and this year I was elected as Director of Retirees for the COSALC. Thanks to all who have supported me in the past and I hope I can do a good job as director.
I have 2 sons, Joseph, who is a city carrier in Edgewater, and Jeffrey who is a career Navy man now with 16 plus years in. I am so proud of both of them for their accomplishments. I have 2 grand daughters, Alexandria (14) and Gabriella (9) who live far away but I hope to visit them soon. I absolutely love to play golf (16 handicap), love bowling (185 average), always have an enjoyable time hunting, camping, hiking and fishing. Haven't done much fishing lately but hope to get back into it. I work part-time as a relief manager at a self storage facility and in my spare time I work for 3 ladies doing yard work and odd jobs such as painting, etc. The good part about those jobs is that those ladies all feed me very well.
The National Association of Letter Carriers is such a good union to belong to, without it we would all be making a lot less money and not have the lifestyle we have gotten us to. The pressures of the job are made easier when one gets involved with the NALC because you are not only helping yourself but others as well. I have been a member of the NALC for 38 years and I am very proud to be a member of the NALC.
